Duke Nukem Forever Teaser Debuts

Following yesterday’s screenshot release, Shacknews is pleased to premiere the first new Duke Nukem Forever teaser trailer in over six years. According to George Broussard of developer 3D Realms, the approximately minute-long video was originally created internally for the purpose of holiday festivities and marks the beginning of further media unveilings surrounding the notoriously long-in-development first- person shooter.
“The release is still ‘when it’s done,’ but you can expect more frequent media releases and we’re not changing engines again and we have considerable work behind us,” Broussard told Shacknews today when asked about a release date.

The trailer features the work of longtime Duke voice actor Jon St. John as well as prolific game composers Jeremy and Julian Soule. Several captures from the video are available below.

Platforms for the game were not confirmed, but when asked today whether Xbox 360 in addition to PC is likely, Broussard’s response sounded positive though not definitive. “I don’t think we’ve stated that yet for the record but your observations are probably correct,” he conceded.

First announced for PC in 1997 as a followup to the studio’s classic Duke Nukem 3D, Duke Nukem Forever is known to have gone through several significant development iterations. Its last major showing was at E3 2001 with its impressive gameplay trailer; the current Duke Nukem Forever is said to share little in common with that game. For more on the history of Duke Nukem Forever, check out Nick Breckon’s feature, published today.

“It’s basically a restart as the tech changed and we’ve been on this version of the game since 2004 or so,” Broussard said today. “The released media up to this point are not longer relevant other than for curiosity purposes.”

Custom-X LANs

If you are running a LAN or want to run a LAN, Custom-X would love to help sponsor you with assistance on the server operations and provide web hosting for the LAN as well as assistance in running the LAN (Software suggestions, tips, possible hands on assistance)

Students at schools are also defiantly suggested to attempt to run a LAN as some schools will offer their facilities and resources to help, one such LAN which is now also sponsored by Custom-X is the Kings LAN (Kings Baptist Grammar School) these opportunities are great as the general cost and hassles of running a LAN are removed because the school already had most of it on hand.

We dream of the possibility of having at-least 1 LAN in each state, which will also double as a Custom-X get together. The dream of semaja2.net is also to host the first national LAN where all LANs are run at the same time and a internet connection combines all the LANs.

If you are interested in running a LAN please contact semaja2.net for more details, i will gladly assist in your setup and maintenance.

Heavy Leopard Pre-orders Caused by Vista

Some solution providers have reported that the pre-orders for Apple’s Leopard are more than double for the same time prior to Tiger’s release. They cite Leopard’s new features and customer dissatisfaction with Vista as key drivers, according to ChannelWeb on Thursday.

“We’ve probably doubled the backorders of Leopard, compared to what we did with Tiger,” said Patrick Brown, CEO of Brown Computer Solutions, in Brattleboro, Vermont, a solution provider and Apple specialist. “With the Intel Macs, Apple has significantly increased the installed base. We do expect a very successful launch.”

Chris gear, the marketing director for Macforce in Portland, Oregon concurred that poor reviews of Vista have created a strong sales environment. “More than anything, it has to do with the biggest growth coming from ’switchers’ — people switching from the Windows platform,” Mr. Gear said. He also pointed out that since Apple’s switch to Intel, many of his customers don’t even have to worry about choosing between Mac OS X or Windows. However, the pent up demand for a new Mac OS has driven the market as well, he noted.

While some solution providers were having trouble ordering Leopard, an almost festive atmosphere has surrounded the launch. Mr. Gear is planning a launch party and will give away stuffed leopards.

Yukio Tezuka, an Apple specialist at MacSensei in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, said he would give away leopard-skin computer mice. “Many people are calling us,” he said and reported strong interest by customers. However, he was also cautious. “When Tiger came out, there was a lot of code being re-written (afterward.),” Mr. Tezuka said. “Those are the kinds of things we’re afraid of.

Website changes

I have combined the forum with the blog now, however users will need to create a blog account to use the forums if they have not done already

Sorry about the inconvience

Custom-X.net in 2007

We are not 100% sure yet, but we may of found a host for Custom-X.net.

If the new host is secured we will relaunch Custom-X.net this year, with more players, more server power and fulfilling our promises to the community as a whole. There will be a new structure to the server/admin team so stay turned for updates.

Please be aware that with the new structure just because you were an admin on the old server by no way means your an admin on the new server. We are all the more wiser from 3 years of running online game servers and there will be changes.

With the new server we will have a new very powerful server. At the time of writing it looks like we will have a Dual core Opteron 2.6Ghz, 4GB of memory and unlimited Australia only bandwidth. We are looking at hosting files, helping new games out by hosting an Australian server and stats left right and centre and the obvious massive Natural Selection server. We also have a couple of programmers under our sleeve now, so expect more from the website.

As you can see the site has been revamped, the forums have been reset and we have a real RSS feeding blog. All this fancy Web2.0 stuff only means we are catching up to the rest of the Internet that decided to upgrade its self to 2.0 overnight (or since we went down).

The best part of the new hosting deal is the hosting is coming from a private source, this means we wont have to be politically correct, feeding an online flame war that will surly ingolf us all. So expect more from your game server as the online flame war between CX and other online NS servers begins. Yet another saga opens in fanboy baiting.

Comment if your excited like “Big Kev” on TV.

Custom-X OLD SCHOOLERS

Hi guys,

Well ive decided to launch the Custom-X server on my own home server, which obviously sucks compared to a real game server.

However this gameserver has the exact settings from the day Custom-X went down, well hopefully….. anyway this server can handle about 5-6 people on the current connection which is perfect for those small games between old schoolers.

So if you want to play on the server, just send me a email and i will grant you access along with map powers.

PS. Email me if you want a get together on the server, also sorry for the lag that may come as it is my internet connection shared with like 4 people :P

Email : semaja2 (at) gmail.com

PS. Include your alias back then, who you are etc, i dont want randoms who never played on Custom-X joining in

PSS. Im trying to find someone with a ADSL2 connection to help out, *Looks at merix*
